Zincate and Electroless Nickel Question
Posted by admin on June 30th, 2009 at 03:44am
Caswell recommends their Zincate Pre-Treatment for Aluminum (AL) parts prior to EN bath, which removes oxide as well as leaves a coating of zinc on the AL, and they say in part, "As the part is lowered into the plating tank, the zinc is etched away by the nickel solution." Yet, all I’ve read concerning zinc in the manual and on the forums says to avoid any zinc in the EN solution like the plague. Could someone explain this apparent contradiction, or am I not understanding what I read? For what it’s worth, the Aluminum in question would be 6061 alloy, straight off the lathe.
Thank you kindly,
Gary
