Reverse Electro plate question

Posted by admin on October 4th, 2009 at 11:23am

I am attempting to refinish an old Colt. The gun was apparently originally nickel and some time later refinished with chrome over base plate of copper. As alot of original nickel was missing at the time of the replating…some copper/chrome is to steel and some to old nickel.
Is the a solution for sale that would remove the old plating? Or is the only option a reverse Electroplate tank? I was advised to bead blast but am reluctant due to the age of the Colt. I was also advised to use a spoon as the Anode in a Salt solution…I am reluctant on the Salt solution due to the danger of rapid pitting. Any help is appreciated
