Polishing alloy blower, help needed

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2010 at 10:34am

Hey all, so i started this vortech housing a few weeks ago and just continued today. Have all my caswell stuff here, using a hand drill, and dremel. Have the felt bobs, some dremel pieces, the bobs, bullet bobs, and sisal, cotton wheels etc. Also have the greaseless compounds and the other compound bars. The aluminium casting is very good, hardly any porosity, to none at all, once it’s taken down. Now the main parts, i’ve got sorted, i started hitting that with the sisal and black compound – awesome. It’s the fine details at the back there, and on the front cover i’ve yet to start. How on earth can i get in there to get the cast down? None of my bobs fit. The bullets on the front perhaps. Those dremel pieces are absolutely shocking quality, and just wear down in all of 10 seconds. How do i go about this? I’m thinking, the greaseless compounds, but what can i put them on that will fit into the fine areas, and last more than 10 seconds. Can i use them on a rag by hand? Seems to me, having little sisal wheels or drums would be really handy. Should i make tools to get in there, wrap them and hand sand them with wet and dry papers? Then at least, they’d be flat and i could compound polish them up with the felt bobs and black compound, and they should last. The cast just rips them up. Any help appreciated folks, cheers
PS, another question is, for polishing the aluminium, what speed should i use on the dremel. It goes from 1 to 35, are they hundreds, or thousands of rpm, i can’t remember?!
Thanks Went
