Newbie Question about a power supply w/zinc-cadmium set

Since they’re out of the rectifier I was going to buy I was wondering if I could use something like a 10v 1.5amp a/c adapter , an extenion cord with a dimmer switch set on low or a 12v battery for a power supply with the zinc cadmium kit. I’ll be plating mostly small parts.
