Need help – Newbie

Hi all, i am so new to this area and forum, probably someone know there is a thread that has resolved to what im about to ask.
i want to gold plate my e71, it stainless steel but there is doubt before i do the all the process to gold plate it.
1. do i need to strip the paint on that metal first ??(its the grey housing) or i can just straight apply the stainless steel activator and then Gold solutions

Could anyone help me please, with detail steps would be great!!! :D

Thanks in advance, FYI i have no background of this thing, so i have limited understanding on chemicals and metal base
