Linear versus Switching Power Supply for Plating
Posted by admin on September 17th, 2009 at 10:05pm
I was surprised at how light it is and I find that the reason is that it is a "switching" power supply. The ad stated that it is good for charging batteries, but didn’t make any mention of suitability for plating. It was stated as having Constant Current mode, so that led me to believe it would work.
On doing some further research, I see that there is a Mastech model HY3020D that is more expensive, but is a "linear" power supply and stated as recommended for plating operations.
Can anyone tell me why a linear power supply would be better? What problems will I have with this switching supply? Should I return the switching supply and upgrade?
