Chrome deplating turning pink. Questions.

Let me start off by saying I have no experience in plating or deplating. I build custom drums and I want an option for old "aged" looking parts. This has Been done. Most drum parts are what I learned is pot metal and will just fall apart. The only parts I can do are chrome plated brass and steel. While doing a brass part, I’m having pretty good luck, but the part is pink. Here’s what I’m doing:
slightly above 50/50 muriatic acid and water, and 12-18 volts running to the part. I let it sit overnight, bubbling away, and it turned pink. I had another brass part turn pink on me, but I just sanded it lightly, and put it back in and it came out looking nice. Is there an easier way? I have read through these forums a good amount before asking, but I can’t really find anything on this.
Thanks
Adam
