My customers have reported random incidents of ceramic blistering. I experienced it on my own bike. THese pipes were well prepped, according to mfr instructions and looked great for a while.

So I make a new set of pipes and pay particular attention to prep, making certain there is no shiny surface, no oil, no skin oil, no water or oil from the compressor, real clean, nice blast profile.

I degrease the part with Evapo Rust (organic, non-solvent, detergent type cleaner from Caswell). I sand blast with AO 70#, pre-bake to 800F for one hour, coat lightly but completely. I bake for one hour at 450F, let cool over night. Pipes look perfect. I bake them again at 800F for one hour and let cool for 45mins in the kiln before taking the pipes out to my rack in the shop (70F).

The ceramic blistered off the pipes as they cooled.

Is the steel cooling faster than the ceramic, causing the coating to pop off? Should I switch to high-temp powder?
