anodizing cast parts

Im having an issue with cast parts turning uniformly grey in the anodizing tank, they wont take dye and the tank starts to discolour after. The parts where bead blasted before starting and looked ok after de-smut, the parts are defenately aluminium but I am not sure of the grade. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
