Ice cube relay DPDT Anyone know anything about them?

April 30th, 2010 at 12:38pm Under metal finishing

I am trying to find out how a relay will work to turn on a buzzer and light once my timer has hit OFF in the powder cooking cycle I don’t want to turn elements off as I have it Manually wired to the master switch just want some notification if I am around the corner working on more parts…

Any help or a link where I can get an illistration on relays and samples of how they are wired would be great Thanks so much

Building a Fume Extractor

April 30th, 2010 at 12:38pm Under metal finishing

I want to build a fume extractor similar to the one diagramed in the Caswell Manual. It calls for an all plastic pump and a mist nozzle. I have not had luck finding those items. Anyone know where to get them?

Project to Brass Plate Blued Rifle parts, need a few pointers about prepping…

April 30th, 2010 at 12:37pm Under metal finishing

I recently purchased a Rossi Model 92 Replica Rifle. I wanted the Brass/Blued finish but they only make that finish in 45 colt, which is not the caliber I wanted. I ended up with a .44 Mag but the finish is Blued Steel… I’d like to Brass Plate the Receiver, Barrel Forend Cap and Butt Plate… I know I first need to Nickel Plate before I Brass Plate… I’m assuming after dissassembly, I’ll need to remove the factory Blueing and degrease everything very well… Any other tips I need to know about…? I’d like the rifle to ultimately look like the pic…

Thanks in advance for the replies…

No more Extreme Chrome available from Caswell?

April 30th, 2010 at 12:37pm Under metal finishing

This was my chrome of choice and I see it’s gone. I bought some of what appears to be a new powder, Ultra Chrome, but do not like it nearly as much. It’s a PITA to lay and so far I’ve wasted a good portion of it re-shooting parts because it doesn’t act the way the Extreme Chrome did. Not sure if it’s in my shooting it or when it cures, but I haven’t changed a single thing except the powder I’m shooting.

Anyone know about the availability of it? I’d hate to be relegated to Ultra Chrome for good :-(

Rubber solution

April 30th, 2010 at 12:37pm Under metal finishing

has anyone got any suggestions for an alternative masking media ? rubber cement is not available in the UK (apparently Brussels cannot trust us with it ) i have tried contact adhesive, which works great, but is a "PITA" bordering on nye impossible to apply by brush and isnt suitable for fine detail work. i have tried water based latex etc, but the ammonia content leeches certain colours, especially red. ……….. ive been searching and trying different things for months, but havent found anything that can be applied accurately enough .
Maybe im trying to do the impossible ??? the pic below is done using contact adhesive, but it is just too viscous . ive tried "watering it down" with various solutions but to no avail…….

Mineral Wool Insulation Distributor

April 29th, 2010 at 12:36am Under metal finishing

I am new to the site and I am in the planning stages to fabricate my first oven. In looking for a local source for Mineral Wool Insulation, I stumbled across IDI. I contacted them with what I wanted and was happily surprised they had exactly what I needed. I asked for 3.5"x16" Mineral Wool that is designed for metal studs. Normal insulation bats are only 14.5" wide, while steel studs require a full 16". I am sure most of you already knew that, but like I said, I am new here. They sell it in bundles of 128 square feet, which just happens to be exactly what I need for my 3×4x6 oven! He said they stock it and it is $60 for the bundle. It is made by Thermafiber and is rated to 2000*F. I think this will work nicely for my oven build. IDI appears to have locations in several states. Hopefully this is new/helpful information…if not, feel free to ignore it :)

Polishing Knife bolsters question

April 29th, 2010 at 12:36am Under metal finishing

Anyone do knife work? Just wondering what tape people are using to keep the black residue off of the wood scales. Blue masking tape, metal tape?

newbie, cant get a mirror finish on alu bbs wheels.

April 29th, 2010 at 12:36am Under metal finishing

Hi! im new at this polishing metal and buffing things so here it goes:
Ive bought some BBS RC035/038 wheels that im refinishing. And i want the lip to be mirror polished so i bought a aluminium polishing set from a shop where i live with to wheels, a sisal and a loose wheel, green and pink compound. I sanded the lip on the wheels with 120, 240, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1200, 1500 and 2000 before i tryed the green compound with sisal (ive read something about thats not good cause the green will just ruin my previous sanding up to 2000) and the lip got really shiny, but got allot of black "streaks", haze and some tiny scratches in same direction as the sisal.! Maybe ive put to much green compound on the wheel ? but then i tried the pink and loose wheel to se if this would help but it didnt at all.. So i got very frustrated and bought some Autosol and Meguiars Metal Polish and it helped a bit on the haze but the shine went away.
I appreciate all the tipps and tricks i can get!:-D

Edit: I use a Protool 18v hand held drill and 6" wheels. on 4th gear the drill has 3850 rpm..
